Notes about the Pattern:

The initial ch 3 counts as a stitch at the beginning of each round.
The newer 2019 Caron Cotton Cakes are larger than the original Cakes. The pattern, as written, uses 2 of the old Caron Cotton Cakes (7 oz / 422 yds total). If you use 1 of the new Cakes, you can make a larger bag by adding several rounds to the sides.

Pattern Instructions Bag Base:

Round 1: Begin with a magic circle, then chain 3 (this counts as the first stitch). Work 11 double crochet stitches into the magic circle. Slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3. (12 stitches)

Round 2: Chain 3, and work a double crochet stitch in the same stitch. Follow this by working 2 double crochet stitches in each stitch around. Slip stitch to the top of the chain 3. (24 stitches)

Round 3: Chain 3, and work a double crochet stitch in the same stitch. Work 1 double crochet in the next stitch, then work 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch. Repeat this pattern until you reach the last stitch. Work 1 double crochet in the last stitch, then slip stitch to the top of the chain 3. (36 stitches)

Round 4: Chain 3, and work a double crochet stitch in the same stitch. Work 1 double crochet in the next 2 stitches, then work 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch. Repeat this pattern until you have 2 stitches left. Work 1 double crochet in each of the last 2 stitches, then slip stitch to the top of the chain 3. (48 stitches)

Round 5: Chain 3, and work a double crochet stitch in the same stitch. Work 1 double crochet in the next 3 stitches, then work 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch. Repeat this pattern until you have 3 stitches remaining. Work 1 double crochet in each of the last 3 stitches, then slip stitch to the top of the chain 3. (60 stitches)

Round 6: Chain 3, and work a double crochet stitch in the same stitch. Work 1 double crochet in the next 4 stitches, then work 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch.
