Granny Ripple Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

Granny Ripple Blanket: There is a crochet that never ceases to be charming and that always brings back fond memories like a granny blanket. This pattern is different from other throws and blankets, as it is created from small squares made of different colors, which when we see it, we already know how to recognize it.

Another great advantage of the Granny Ripple Blanket is the possibility of using threads of different colors. So if you have several threads of different colors, but in small quantities, this is certainly the perfect pattern. Because with it you can use several lines in small quantities if you want a colorful blanket.

To start your granny blanket, you will need yarn in different shades and a crochet hook. But the most important thing is to have the will and creativity to learn. With just a little time and patience, you can create a beautiful blanket that will serve you for years to come.

The materials:

Size: This pattern is for a baby blanket/throw size, measuring 35” x 49”. For guidance on different sizes, refer to the “Pattern Notes” section.

Hook: Utilize a Size H (5mm) crochet hook for this project.

Yarn: you can use whatever colors you like.

Additional Materials: You’ll need a tapestry needle to weave in the loose ends.

The tutorial:

Begin by chaining a multiple of 18, plus 6. In the example, a chain of 168 is used, resulting in 9 ripples.

Foundation Row:
Work 3 double crochet (dc) stitches into the 6th chain from the hook.
*(Skip 2 chains, work 3 dc into the next chain) twice.
Skip 5 chains.
*(Work 3 dc into the next chain, skip 2 chains) twice.
Work (3 dc, chain 3, 3 dc) into the next chain.*
Repeat between *s until the end of the chain, chain 5, and turn the work.
Single Row Repeat:
Work 3 dc into the first chain-3 gap.
*(Work 3 dc between the next two dc clusters) twice.
Skip the space between the next two dc clusters (bottom of ripple).
*(Work 3 dc between the next two dc clusters) twice.
Work (3 dc, chain 3, 3 dc) into the next chain-3 gap* (top of ripple). Note: At the end of the row, this will be worked into the chain-5 gap.
Repeat between *s until the end of the row, chain 5, and turn the work.
Continue working the Single Row Repeat to your desired length, changing colors every two rows. Do not break the yarn after completing the last two rows.

After completing the last row, do not break the yarn. Turn the work and crochet across once more to “open up” the stitches. Use single crochet (sc) stitches:

Work 3 sc in the 5-chain loop.
*(Work 3 sc in the next gap) twice.
Skip the next gap.
*(Work 3 sc in the next gap) twice.
Work 6 sc in the next gap (without chaining between).
Repeat between *s until the last ripple.
*(Work 3 sc in the next gap) twice.
Skip the next gap.
*(Work 3 sc in the next gap) twice.
Work 6 sc in the last 5-chain loop, and then break the yarn.
Return to the foundation row at the other end of the blanket. Reattach the same color of yarn used for the foundation row, and work the other end the same way to “open up” those stitches.
