Abbreviations

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

st – stitch

Foundation Row
Make a chain in multiples of 6 + 1 (example: ch 31). Work a row of single crochets (sc) across.

Row 1 – Start the shells
Ch 1, sc in first st. Skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sts, sc in next st. Rep from * to * across the row.

Row 2 – Offset the shells
Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same st (half shell). Sc in the middle (3rd) dc of next shell, 5 dc in sc between shells. Rep across. End with 3 dc in last sc (half shell).

Row 3 and beyond
Rep Rows 1 and 2 alternatly until piece reaches the desired lenght.
